SWITZERLAND, JULY 03 – The Facebook-owned messaging company, Whatsapp has announced a new line of features to roll that are expected to roll out over the next few weeks.

In a blog post on Wednesday, the California- based company revealed five new features that will be available on devices shortly.

New to Whatsapp is a new contact-saving QR Codes feature that allows people to add contacts to their phones with the use of QR codes. The tech company certainly wants to free its users from the stress of tapping the digits of their contacts one at a time.

Smartphone users can now make their messaging even more effective with new Animated Stickers. The company noted that stickers were one of the most common ways of communicating on WhatsApp, with billions of stickers sent every day.

“We are rolling out new animated sticker packs that are even more fun and expressive,” the blog post read.

The video-calling feature will see some improvements as video-calling has become the most common way of communicating with friends and loved ones.

Recall that earlier this year, the company increased the number of video call participants to 8. This time, it has added a special feature that will allow users focus on whoever s/he wants just by letting him/her press and hold to maximize a participant’s video to full screen.

Additionally, users can now add a video icon in group chats of 8 or less, and easily start a group video call with 1-tap.

Dark mode will also be coming to the desktop and the web version of the app.  While this feature is not live yet, the company recently shared a screenshot of the new look that shows off a black and gray interface punctuated with dark green accents that pair nicely with the more muted background colors.

These features are expected to be available on smartphones with the next, latest versions of WhatsApp.
