Sevilla Capable of Reaching UCL Semis – Montella

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Sevilla Coach, Vincenzo Montella is convinced of his team’s ability to secure a UEFA Champions League (UCL) semi-final place at the expense of Bayern Munich.

Montella’s side is faced with the task of upsetting cup favourites, Bayern, away at Allianz Arena despite losing the first tie 2-1 at home. Nevertheless, Montella is aware of the enormity of the task on his hands.

‘’It’s going to be difficult, but it’s possible. The important thing is to remain in the game, to have balance, be patient. We don’t have to do many calculations,’’ Montella stated at the press conference on Tuesday. He added that: “We have to play the same way as we did in the first leg. We have to give a good image. I really think it’s possible. The important thing is not to concede goals.’’

The Spanish side that knocked out Manchester United in the Round of 16 courtesy of two goals from French striker, Wissam Ben Yedder at Old Trafford is buoyed for tonight’s tie by the return of Ever Banega from suspension alongside Joaquin Correa and Gabriel Mercado from injuries.

Faced with the possibility of missing out of European football next season, the fans demand a good showing from their side in Germany.  The team feels hard done by the nature of the goals conceded in the first leg; a Jesus Navas own goal and a deflected effort from Thiago Navas and are determined to upset the Bayern side they perceive to be beatable. Inspiration would be drawn from Roma’s gallantry against Barcelona last night in addition to defeating a solid Manchester United side at home.

Since the victory at Old Trafford, the side has not tasted victory, losing 3 and drawing 1 in all competitions. A victory at Allianz Arena would be perfect in setting the tone for their Copa Del Rey final against CF Barcelona in Madrid.
