Man United were lucky against Juventus: Dublin

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Manchester United “got lucky” against Juventus, says Dion Dublin, with Anthony Martial the only positive in an attacking unit which delivered “no end product”.

The Red Devils netted twice in the final four minutes of a dramatic Champions League clash in Turin on Wednesday to head dome with a much-needed three points.

Juan Mata and an Alex Sandro own goal handed Jose Mourinho’s men an unlikely success after former Old Trafford favourite Cristiano Ronaldo had opened the scoring.

United found themselves on the back foot for long periods on Italian soil, as the hosts fired in 23 shots, but they were able to dig deep and get themselves over the line.

Former Red Devils striker Dublin told BBC Sport of their display: “Jose Mourinho’s boys have done the job in a stadium that has been electric.

“If they had got even one point I would have thought it was outstanding but they’ve nicked all three.

“If you come here and get something from Juventus, you’ve done something right.”

While praising the end result for United, Dublin believes Mourinho’s side were once again well short of their best.

Romelu Lukaku was missing for the Red Devils through injury, while Marcus Rashford started on the bench as Alexis Sanchez led the line.

Dublin saw little spark from those in the final third, with French forward Martial providing the only glimmer of hope in a result which rather flattered the Premier League outfit.

“None of the Manchester United players stood out,” said a man who spent two years at Old Trafford between 1992 and 1994.

“Anthony [Martial] maybe, but there was no end product.

“Man Utd kept knocking at the door and they wouldn’t go away.

“Man Utd stayed together and got lucky at the end.”

While a touch fortunate to have emerged victorious at the Allianz Stadium, United have now collected three successive victories across all competitions and will head into a derby date with Manchester City on Sunday in buoyant mood.
