SWITZERLAND, JULY 18 – Following the news that the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Amaju Pinnick’s tenure has ended as the Confederation of African Football, CAF, 1st vice president, lots of fans have taken to social media to share their opinion.

There had been reports that the Nigerian football chief was removed.

Pinnick has debunked those rumours. In a tweet on Thursday evening he explained that the tenure of CAF’s Vice presidents usually expires after two years and the renewal of his own term was not proposed by CAF president, Ahmad Ahmad.

On Twitter, some football fans have shared their opinions on the new development with some praising Pinnick for his outstanding work on football in Africa, and especially in Nigeria where he has brought increased corporate sponsorship into the game.

“You remain the best sir. You have done alot for nigerian football. The enemies of your administration will be put to shame as usual. . More grease to your elbow. God bless you sir,” a football fan, Mbah Mbah said in response to Pinnick’s Tweet.

Another fan, whose Twitter handle is ‘MikeThePundit’ remarked that he is disappointed that the Nigerian maverick is no more CAF’s 1st Vice President.

“A bit sick, was asleep then I woke up to the news that Amaju Pinnick role as CAF 1st Vice President as ended. I am not sad. I am disappointed. I like Amaju, ” he said, with a crying emoji

This is not the first time the football chief has been a victim of fake news. In January this year, there were reports that Pinnick had been arrested and placed on a travel ban and set to be prosecuted by President Buhari over cases of financial mismanagement.

Pinnick and the office of Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari debunked those reports.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu responded in a statement.

“A press release in circulation in the last 24 hours, to the effect that President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the arrest and prosecution of Amaju Pinnick, the NFF Chairman, is fake news because anyone familiar with the President’s unmitigated and unshakable commitment to the due processes of the law will not make such assumptions of the President,”

NFF boss Pinnick has always enjoyed the backing of FIFA and President Muhammadu Buhari because of his excellent contribution to the development of football in the continent.

This is his second term as President of the NFF after winning his election in September 2018.
