SWITZERLAND, MAY 20 – Mounting tensions between Washington and Tehran continued to escalate Sunday after Donald Trump issued a direct threat that war would spell ‘the official end of Iran.’
Taking to Twitter, at just after 4pm ET, the president posted:
‘If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran.
Never threaten the United States again!’
His remarks came in the wake of a rocket attack less than a mile from the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone, which appeared to have been carried out by Iran-backed Shiite militias, an Iraqi military spokesman said.
Today’s Echo reported last Friday that the United States is on the brink of war with Iran, after
U.S ordered all nonessential government staff to leave neighbouring Iraq while Germany and the Netherlands both suspended their military assistance programs in the country in the latest sign of tensions sweeping the Persian Gulf region over still-unspecified threats that the Trump administration says are linked to Iran.
