Lawmaker representing Ogun East Senatorial district, Senator Buruji Kashamu, yesterday, led hundreds of members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in what could be described as a show of strength in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The PDP members, who were drawn from all the local government areas of the state converged on the party secretariat, located on Presidential Boulevard, along Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The rally tagged: ‘Unveiling PDP aspirants in Ogun’ featured posters of Kashamu governorship ambition and other aspirants in the state. Kashamu was recently expelled alongside Chairman and Secretary of the party in the state, Bayo Dayo and Semiu Sodipo by the National Working Committee of PDP.
Addressing his loyalists at the rally, Kashamu described the rally as a show of strength to the people of the state. While speaking on his expulsion, the lawmaker said: “How can somebody expel you when you are committed to the party? The party is not for an individual. I want to authoritatively inform you that I, Senator Buruji Kashamu, remain a member of PDP.
Aside from that, I have a court order that protects me from being expelled by anybody. Any attempt to expel me is an effort in futility.” Also speaking, the embattled state chairman of the party, Adebayo Dayo argued that he remains the authentic chairman of the party. Adebayo said: “Even though people call me factional chairman expelled from the party by Uche Secondus, I still have so many followers.
“We have never had so much crowd at this Secretariat, but we have such a crowd because people are annoyed about the pronouncement expelling Adebayo Dayo, the chairman of PDP in Ogun State and Prince Buruji Kashamu, the senator representing Ogun East. You can see that we are accepted by the people, not because of money, not because of anything, but, because the people have genuine love for us.”
