Troops of the Nigerian Army have attacked and captured a logistics supply and weapons facility for bandits in Kontagora, Niger State.
According to the Nigerian Army, based on a tip off, troops of 311 Artillery Regiment, successfully conducted a raid operation on a suspected facility in Kontagora township. During the raid, some weapons were discovered and recovered.
The soldiers also arrested the logistics supplier for the bandits in the area.
“Troops on Exercise HARBIN KUNAMA 111, have continued to record successes as notorious logistics supplier for bandits crouching between Jibia-Batsari axis -one Marwana Abubakar was arrested at Kwashabawa village in Jibia LGA, Katsina State on Wednesday 8th May 2019,” Nigerian army said in a tweeted statement on Friday morning.
Today’s Echo reported on Thursday that Nigerian troops raided a bandits hideout in neighbouring Kaduna state.
Banditry and kidnapping have become widespread in the Norther part of the country in recent times, evolving to become a menace as dangerous as the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East and the Fulani herdsmen attacks in the North-Central.
The Police recently launched operation ‘Puff Adder’ in the North-West to combat the armed bandits in areas like Zamfara where they have decimated whole communities.
