SWITZERLAND, JULY 16 – The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs , Godswill Akpabio, has denied allegations of sexual harassment against him by a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission , Joy Nunieh.
On Wednesday, Akpabio said there is no iota of truth in all the things Nunieh had said about him.
Nunieh had in a recent interview accused Akpabio of sexually harassing her, corruption and abuse of office, among other allegations.
According to Nunieh, she once slapped Akpabio, when the latter made untoward advances to her at his guest house in Abuja.
She said her reaction to the alleged harassment proved her intolerance for “nonsense” as a woman from Rivers state.
“Why did he not tell Nigerians that I slapped him in his guest house at Apo? I am the only woman that slapped Akpabio. He thought he could come up on me. He tried to harass me sexually,” she said.
“I slapped him. He tried to come on me. I am an Ogoni woman and nobody jokes with us. I showed Akpabio that Rivers women do not tolerate nonsense.”
But the minister, in a statement by his spokesman , Aniete Ekong, described the allegations as “ false , malicious and libellous .”
The statement read, “ Let it be known that there is no scintilla of truth in all the allegations peddled around by Ms Nunieh. They are simply false.
“ The Honourable Minister did not at any time, place or circumstance make any form of sexual advances to Ms . Nunieh, not even to put himself in a position or posture suggestive of sexual advances towards Ms . Nunieh, or any female staff of his ministry or the NDDC ”.
