Sanwo-Olu Renames Onikan Stadium After Former Lagos Governor, Mobolaji Johnson

SWITZERLAND, DECEMBER 03 – Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Tuesday renamed the Onikan Stadium after the late military governor of Lagos, Brigadier-General Mobolaji Johnson.

In a video, that was shared by Jubril Gawat, his New Media aide, Sanwo-Olu said that the stadium would now be known as Mobolaji Olufunso Johnson Stadium.

Gawat tweeted, “ Governor @jidesanwoolu honours the Late Brig Gen Mobolaji Olufunso Johnson by naming the Onikan Stadium after him, It will now be known as Mobolaji Olufunso Johnson Stadium.”

Mobolaji Olufunso Johnson (9 February 1936 – 30 October 2019) was a Nigerian Army Brigadier who served as Military Administrator of the Federal territory of Lagos from January 1966 to May 1967 during the military regime of General Aguyi-Ironsi (to July 1966, and General Gowon subsequently), and then as Governor of Lagos State from May 1967 to July 1975 during the military regime of General Yakubu Gowon.
