SWITZERLAND, MAY 18 – The presidency has announced that the Presidential Task Force(PTF) on COVID-19 will address Nigerians on the next steps concerning the pandemic in the country and not president Muhammadu Buhari as indicated by the media.
This was disclosed by presidential media aide, Femi Adesina on Monday afternoon.
“No presidential broadcast on COVID-19 updates today. None was planned. Rather, the Presidential Task Force will during its usual media briefings bring the nation up to speed on the next steps,” Adesina tweeted.
There were hints yesterday, that president Buhari may address the nation after coordinator of the PTF, Aliyu Sani said during an interview on Channels Television that the president is to decide on whether or not the country should go ahead with the second phase of the easing of the lockdown.
Also, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and Chairman, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, has said that Nigerians should expect fresh directives from the president on Monday(Today)
He said this shortly after he led members of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday. The meeting was to brief the president on the PTF’s activities in the fight against the global pandemic.
In his last broadcast on Monday, April 27th, 2020, Buhari had announced a gradual easing of the lockdown in Lagos, Ogun, and the FCT, beginning from Monday, May 4th.
