Police clash with Shiites as protests turns bloody in Abuja (video)

Media sources have reported that there is an ongoing bloody clash between the police and Shiite protesters under the umbrella of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria(IMN).

The violence is said to have been sparked when protests by members of the IMN, who are followers of Ibrahim El Zakzaky turned bloody.

Police officers teargassed and shot at members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), who gathered to protest the continuous detention of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, at the Unity Fountain in Abuja. According to reports, the police chased the protesters from the area with live bullets as one person was killed.

The police has forcefully dispersed Shiites demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, at the Unity Fountain, Abuja.

El-Zakzaky has been detained without trial for over two years.

In videos shared on social media by Sahara Reporters, the police fired teargas to disperse the protesters at the Unity Fountain, beside Transcorp hotel.

One person has been confirmed killed as the police battle protesters with tear gas and gunshots echo out on the streets of Abuja.
