The exiled leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra(IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu is currently trending on Twitter as Nigerians react to his claims that the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is from Cameroon.

Kanu in a broadcast claimed that Atiku’s Jada was once part of Cameroon, saying: “Do you know that Atiku Abubakar is from Cameroon? His area of Adamawa was in Cameroon, a claim that is historically correct, up till 59 years ago,” he said.

The funniest part of the broadcast as when Kanu said Atiku has a Cameroonian tribal mark on his buttocks.

After Atiku responded, asking him to provide proofs to support his claims, Kanu posted a statement on Twitter referring to a referendum in which Northern Cameroon was ceded to Nigeria in 1961.

Today’s Echo can indeed confirm that Atiku’s part of Adamawa was part of the Northern Cameroon territories ceded to Nigeria in 1961. Atiku had also been born before 1961 which means he was born when his native land was part of Cameroon. The question remains however, whether that sufficiently makes Atiku a non-Nigerian.

Meanwhile, Nigerians are reacting to Kanu’s latest statement online.
