Nigerians Kick as Buhari Delegates to Abba Kyari

SWITZERLAND, AUGUST 21 – The Chief of Staff to president Buhari, Abba Kyari is under fire from Nigerians after the president appeared to delegate immense powers to him.

On Tuesday, the President directed the incoming ministers to channel all requests for meetings with him through his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari.

President Muhammadu Buhari gave the directive on Tuesday at the end of a presidential retreat for ministers-designate, presidential aides and other top government functionaries at the State House in Abuja.

“In terms of coordination, kindly ensure that all submissions for my attention or meeting requests be channelled through the Chief of Staff, while all Federal Executive Council matters be coordinated through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF),”
Buhari said.

Many Nigerians believe such statement indicates a delegation of immense powers to Abba Kyari, whom many believe already wields immense influence on the president.

Recall that Today’s Echo guest writer, Uke Fayanju had stated that Abba Kyari is in charge of affairs in this country and not the president.

“Nigerians beware! Abba Kyari is de facto president, Buhari is just a man in office, not a man in power, Fayanju wrote, on Facebook on July 1, 2019 .

He further explained his assertion by saying:

“How can empirical observation or analysis apply to human actions and sociological trends?Abba Kyari has said the issue of Ruga settlements must apply to all states of the federation. In what capacity did he say that? He has visibly taken over leadership from Buhari. He does so many things behind the president’s, and whatever decision he takes goes well with Buhari. Did we vote for Abba Kyari or Buhari?”
