Soldiers from the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army have raided a hideout for bandits in Kaduna state, killing an unspecified number of bandits and capturing their weapons.
“Following credible intelligence from a good Samaritan, a patrol team of 1 Div NA at about 0430 hours of Wednesday the 8th of May 2019, raided a bandits’ den at Gonan Bature East of Rijana and Kasarami farm house in Chikun LGA, Kaduna State,” the Nigerian Army said via a statement on its verified Twitter handle.
The bandits were found in an abandoned farm house.
“The abandoned Kasarami farm house was reportedly forcefully occupied by criminals and had been used as a shelter and a place where victims of kidnapping were kept,” the Nigerian Army said.
Banditry and kidnapping have become widespread in the Norther part of the country in recent times, evolving to become a menace as dangerous as the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East and the Fulani herdsmen attacks in the North-Central.
The Police recently launched operation ‘Puff Adder’ in the North-West to combat the armed bandits in areas like Zamfara where they have decimated whole communities.
