SWITZERLAND, SEPTEMBER 20 – N100 billion has been budgeted to support the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP), being championed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the state governors as an alternative to the controversial RUGA policy.
Today’s ECho gathers that the Federal Government will contribute 80 percent in grants to support the States, while States will contribute land, project implementation structure, personnel and 20 percent of the cost of implementation.
This was one of the outcomes of the National Economic Council(NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Thursday, September 19.
“One of the focus areas of yesterday’s National Economic Council (NEC) Meeting was the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP), jointly developed by @NigeriaGov & State Govts to modernize pastoral agriculture in Nigeria & bring an end to clashes between farmers and herders, ” the presidency wrote in a statement on Friday.
Chairman of the NEC Technical Committee on NLTP, Governor of Ebonyi State,Dave Umahi, made a presentation to NEC. He reminded the Council that NLTP is not targeted only at cattle, but is instead a holistic Plan focusing on the entire value chain of Pastoral Agriculture in Nigeria.
He highlighted the six Pillars of the Plan:
– Economic Development
– Conflict Resolution
– Justice and Peace
– Humanitarian Relief and Early Recovery
– Human Capital Development
– Cross-cutting issues
