Former Oyo Governor, Ajimobi, Dies at 70, from COVID-19

SWITZERLAND, JUNE 25 – Senator Abiola Ajimobi, former governor of Oyo state is dead. He was 70 years old.

Ajimobi, who has been in coma and on life support for some days after a surgery passed away at the First Cardiology Hospital, Ikoyi

Ajimobi, who was being treated for COVID-19 complications has been totally unconscious since last Thursday after his organs totally collapsed.

He said his family will make a formal announcement on Thursday evening.

“His organs collapsed about a week ago. It is just that the family didn’t want to unplug the life support. May his soul rest in peace ” he said.

The former governor was rumoured to be dead last week but his aides and family members denounced the report asking Nigerians to rather pray for his recovery.

The late former govrnor will be buried tomorrow, Friday 26th June 2020.

Reliable sources who are closed with the family said the former Governor would be buried in Ibadan at 10:00am on Friday according to the Islamic rites.

Ajimobi, who was governor from 2011 to 2019, was named the Acting National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) last week but never resumed.

The former Chief Executive Officer, National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company, a subsidiary of Shell Nigeria, died due to underlying health conditions, which was complicated by Covid-19.
