SWITZERLAND, JUNE 15 – Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki has held talks with key members of the People Democratic Party(PDP), including the governors of Rivers and Akwa Ibom States, Nyesom Wike and Udom Emmanuel. This has further led credence to reports that Obaseki is heading to the PDP.
This follows his disqualification from contesting the Edo State gubernatorial election under the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the party’s screening committee. Many analysts believe this is the culmination of the lingering battle between the governor and his erstwhile godfather and APC national chairman, Oshiomole.
Obaseki visited his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, on Sunday in Port Harcourt.
Photos of the visit have been posted on Twitter via Mr Wike’s personal Twitter handle @GovWike.
The embattled Edo governor wore a white long-sleeve shirt on blue trousers, with a face cap that has the inscription ‘Obaseki 2020’. He was personally received at the Rivers Government House by Mr Wike.
While many believed the visit is politicaly related, Obaseki’s spokesman said it may be related to the death of Mrs Ibidun Ighodalo, who passed away in Port-Harcourt on Sunday morning.
Later on Sunday, Obaseki visited another PDP governor, Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State.
However, the agenda of the meeting with the PDP governors were not revealed to anyone but Obaseki is believed to be on consultation with them after he was disqualified by the All Progressives Congress.
