COVID-19: Nigeria Desperately in Need of Test Kits as Death Toll Hits 40

SWITZERLAND, APRIL 27 – The National Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) has admitted that it desperately needs more test kits, even as Nigeria’s death toll from COVID-19 adds up to 40 with additional 5 deaths, the highest in a day since the outbreak started in the country.

On Sunday, the NCDC tweeted: “We’re desperately looking for more RNA extraction kits as we expand #COVID19 testing Product: Total viral RNA extraction kits (preferably spin column and with a lysis buffer) Manufacturers: Qiagen, ThermoFischer, SeeGene, Inqaba, LifeRiver etc.”

According to Worldometers, Nigeria has carried out a total of 10,918 tests as at April 26. In comparison, Ghana has tested 100,642, South Africa 168,243, and Egypt 90,000.

Meanwhile, the NCDC has announced 91 additional confirmed cases, bringing total tally to 1,273.
