SWITZERLAND, MAY 27 – The governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has remarked that the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the lives of children in the state.

This was part of the governor’s message on the occasion of Children’s Day celebrations, marked on May 27th of the year.

With schools closed across the state for almost two months now as a response to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus. most children in Lagos are currently at home instead of attending school.

Lagos remains the epicentre of the pandemic in Nigeria with a total of 3,756 confirmed cases to date, according to the National Centre for Disease Control(NCDC)

According to Sanwo-Olu, “many of them do not understand why they have to stay at home and not see their friends. As we celebrate #ChildrensDay, let us pay special attention to their mental health, physical capacity and their important needs.”

“Let us encourage and empower them to hold on to their aspirations and dreams because every child has the potential to be the catalyst that transforms our society for the better and this is the point where we sow the seeds for a brighter future generation,” the governor added.
