A High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja has dismissed a bail application filed by Convicted former governor of Taraba state, Jolly Nyame.

Justice Banjoko, who presided over the session, dismissed the application the convict filed on seeking release from prison, pending determination of his appeal against his conviction, on medical ground.

Recall that Jolly Nyame was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment without an option of fine in May by an Abuja based female judge, Justice Adebukola Banjoko, for misappropriation of state funds.

According to Justice Banjoko, his conviction which took a long time in coming, was to serve as deterrent to other public officers.

Her words were, “There’s no moral justification for the level of outright theft, and the Court must therefore, impose a statement, hopefully as a deterrent to other public officers, who may be similarly inclined.”
