Chaos, confusion at Akwa Ibom House of Assembly as Akpabio-Udom war escalates

There is confusion at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly after an attempt by five lawmakers to take over the house and impeach the speaker sparked intense commotion, according to media sources.

This incidence is said to be the latest development in a mortal struggle for the soul of Akwa Ibom State between the governor, Udom Emmanuel of PDP, and his erstwhile godfather, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who recently defected to the APC, splitting the political fabric of the state right in the middle.

There has been a series of dramatic events at the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly in the past two weeks, which sources say, are connected to the move by the Speaker, Onofiok Luke to sack another Assemblyman, Idongesit Ituen  after he defected to the APC.

According to reports, 5 sacked former lawmakers stormed the House of Assembly this morning with heavily armed policemen and thugs.

They took the  mace and  set out to impeach the speaker, suspend 21 members of the assembly and commence proceedings to impeach the Governor of the state.


Sources at Uyo told Today’s Echo Governor Emmanuel Udom literarily stormed the House of Assembly complex to disrupt the sitting by the five members, who belong to the All Progressives Congress.

Several members of the opposition have condemned the attempt by 5 lawmakers to take over the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly to the detriment of 21 of their colleagues.
