Buhari Orders Investigation Into the Killing of 3 Policemen by Soldiers

SWITZERLAND, AUGUST 8 – President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered investigations into the killing of three police officers and one civilian by troops of the Nigerian Army in taraba State on Wednesday.

Today’s Echo had earlier reported that soldiers opened fire on a convoy of undercover Nigerian policemen from the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) transporting a suspected kidnapper undercover in Taraba State. Three policemen were killed and the suspected kidnapper was released by the troops, according to a statement by the Nigerian Police.

The Nigerian Army has released a statement on the incident saying the soldiers thought the policemen were kidnappers.

Special aide to president Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmad revealed on Thursday afternoon that the president has directed the Defence Headquarters to investigate the incident.

“President Buhari directs the Defence Hdqrs to commence immediate investigation of the incident involving the troops of 93 Battalion, Takum, Taraba, which resulted in the death of three police officers and a civilian, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar discloses,” Ahmad tweeted on Thursday, shortly after the president got security briefings from heads of security and intelligence agencies.
