Birthday wishes have been pouring in from both political allies and opponents as President Muhammadu Buhari clocks 76.
The president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina wrote an Opinion editorial titled ‘Why we love this president’ in which he heaped praises on Buhari.
According to Adesina, “there are those who are passionately opposed to the President. They are a very vocal minority, who abhor his integrity, hate his sense of accountability, and even want him dead. But we are not talking about those who Fela Anikulapo-Kuti called “opposite people.” On this day of his 76th birthday, we are talking of the teeming masses who love Buhari, and who can go to the ends of the earth for him.”
Former president Goodluck Jonathan felicitated with president Buhari with a goodwill message he signed in Abuja. The former president thanked God, who he said has given Buhari a long life.
Jonathan further noted that President Buhari has contributed so much to the development of Nigeria, having served the nation in different capacities, and always giving his best whenever he is called upon to serve.
He said, “Yours has been a life of great service to our dear nation, having served as a brave soldier, Governor, Minister of Petroleum, Head of State, and now President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Likewise, former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), congratulated the president on his birthday.
He felicitated with the President in a letter yesterday, noting that Buhari has achieved great success in the fight against corruption, terrorism and insecurity, as well as getting the country out of economic recession.
“As we get over our mid-seventies, we can say with all sense of modesty that we should celebrate every birthday anniversary with prayers in order for us to thank Allah for all the blessings and the bounties he showered upon us,” he said.
Also, Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, sent good will messages to the President on his 76th birthday.
Okorocha, who is Chairman of Progressives Governors’ Forum in a statement issued yesterday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, said he was proud of the president.
“On behalf of the people of Imo State, his family and the Rescue Mission Government, I congratulated the President on his 76th birthday. He has done well as President of the country,” he said.
