SWITZERLAND, JUNE 11 – The Deputy Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Hon. Mukhtar Isa Hazo has been impeached, and has been replaced by Hon. Isaac Zankai, Today’s Echo has gathered.
According to the Speaker, Hon. Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani, 24 out of the 34 members of the Kaduna House of Assembly impeached the Deputy Speaker on Thursday, June 11. The development followed a vote of no confidence on him.
“Moments ago, Twenty four out of the 34 Honorable members of the Kaduna House of Assembly impeached the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Mukhtar Isah Hazo following a vote of no confidence passed on him during today’s sitting 11th day of June, 2020.
“The Honourable members, however elected Hon. Isaac Zankai, member representing Kauru constituency as the new Deputy Speaker of the House,” Zailani said in a statement released on Thursday.
A media source said Hazo was impeached for alleged ‘lack of Competence to discharge his duties.’
Hazo, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is representing the Basawa Constituency at the state legistlature. The deputy speaker has only been in office for four months having been elected in February.
