SWITZERLAND, JUNE 21 – The Federal Government has directed that all primary and secondary schools in the country resume the teaching of history as a subject. The implementation of the directive will commence from the next academic year.
This is coming several years after history disappeared as a subject from the Nigerian school curriculum during the military era.
Today’s Echo gathers that the development was announced by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono in Abuja on Friday.
“The Federal Government has directed all primary and secondary schools across the country to immediately implement the teaching of history as a standalone subject from the next academic calendar, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education Mr. Sonny Echono discloses today in Abuja,” President Buhari’s aide on New Media, Ahmad Bashir said on Friday afternoon.
