Media reports indicate that embattled Senator Dino Melaye from Kogi State has defected from the APC to the PDP.
According to a Sun news online report, Dino Melaye announced his defection on the floor of the Senate house earlier today. Media reports say he sat with the PDP senators, and avoided the APC senators. This may be connected to his recent ordeals in the hands of the government.
He is, however, yet to formally join the PDP.
To do so officially, Mr Melaye would have to write the Senate president of his decision to leave his party and join the opposition.
The letter would then be read during Senate plenary.
In recent times, Dino Melaye has been in conflict with members of the ruling APC, including the governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.
He was recently arrested and accused of running a crime syndicate. He jumped out from a moving police vehicle while taking him to Kogi, alleging that they were taking him to Lokoja to die. He was taken to the hospital. He had to attend his court hearings on a wheel chair.
