SWITZERLAND, JUNE 18 – Sources close to a former Governor of Oyo State and newly appointed factional Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Senator Abiola Ajimobi have denied rumours that he has died after battling with the coronavirus for days.
Different sources have either confirmed or denied the report.
Bolaji Tunji, media aide to Senator Abiola Ajimobi has described as untrue reports of his death.
In a post on his social media handles, he urged Nigerians to pray for the recovery of the APC chieftain who is battling with COVID-19.
“My attention has been drawn to the rumours circulating on the social media about my principal. Kindly disregard. We however continue to pray for him. Thank you all for the show of concern. Bolaji Tunji, Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy,”Tunji said.
Multiple media sources had on Thursday evening insisted that the former governor, who was reportedly on ventilator at First Cardiology Hospital, Lagos due to COVID-19, has indeed died.
Award winning journalist Fisayo Soyombo insisted the former governor is dead, citing a source he completely trusts.
“A source who has never failed me in six years of knowing him has just confirmed to me the death, in Lagos today, of Abiola Ajimobi, former Governor of Oyo State, due to underlying health conditions worsened by the Coronavirus,” Soyombo tweeted on Thursday evening.
Channels TV broadcaster, Sulaiman Aledeh also confirmed the report.
Ajimobi’s daughter, fatima ganduje-Ajimobi, has also denied the ruours.
“Thank you for all the messages but our father is still alive, alhamdulillah. When it is our time we will all die so wait first,” fatima said via a tweet on Thursday evening.
