SWITZERLAND, JULY 20 – Ismaila Isa Funtua, a close friend and confidant of President Muhammadu Buhari, has died, according to presidency sources.
A wealthy businessman, Isa Funtua is said to be a member of the president’s inner circle; a group of influential persons around him that reportedly help him take key decisions.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un! Just heard about Mallam Ismaila Isa Funtua’s sudden death. This life! May Allah accept his soul, forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannah al-Firdaus.
“This life is so unforeseeable! You will just be full of life and doing very fine, the next minute it will be people grieving over your demise. May Allah accept the souls of our departed beloved ones,” Presidential aide on New Media, Bashir Ahmed, tweeted on Monday evening.
Funtua is suspected to have died of cardiac arrest as he was not known to be seriously sick.
Ismaila Isa Funtua OFR, mni, was a Nigerian statesman who served as a Federal Minister in the Second Nigerian Republic.
A member of the 1994-1995 Constitutional Conference, he was also the founder of Bulet International Nigeria Limited, which built some of the iconic public buildings in Abuja.
He was 78.
