SWITZERLAND, DECEMBER 16 – President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the immediate reopening four land borders with immediate effect, while others will be reopened subsequently. This follows the Wednesday meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) where the matter was discussed.
“President @MBuhari has directed the immediate opening of four land borders: Seme, Illela, Maigatari, and Mfun,” the Presidency tweeted on Wednesday.
The Minister of Finance Budget and National Planning Mrs Zainab Ahmed, who disclosed after the week’s virtual FEC meeting, also said restriction on the importation of some commodities, like rice and other products, would continue to be enforced.
The borders opened for now include Seme Border in the South-West, Ilela Border in the North-West, Mfun Border in the South-South and Maigatari Border in the North-East.
President Buhari had hinted a week ago that the borders would be reopened soon after a meeting with state governors.
