SWITZERLAND, JULY 30 – Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum, has escaped death after some gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram fighters, ambushed his convoy at Baga on Wednesday.

According to media sources,  the governor was on his way to some internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in the northern part of Borno when the incident happened.

A viral footage of the incident shows security forces accompanying the governor’s convoy lying on the floor and returning fire to the attackers.

Mohammed Mai Bukar, one of the governor’s aides, assured residents that he is safe.

In a Facebook post, Bukar wrote: “To Our Concerned citizens H.E Prof.Zulum and His Entourage are all fine and there was (were) no casualties. Thanks!”

The attack comes three months after Ali Modu Sheriff, a former governor of the state, was attacked by the sect along Maiduguri-Damaturu Highway.

At least five persons including three policemen were reportedly killed in the incident.
