Boko Haram: 135 Nigerian Refugees Repatriated from Cameroon

SWITZERLAND, AUGUST 23 – The federal government has flagged off the repatriation of Nigerian refugees living in Cameroon.

The Nigerian government’s delegation is by Sadiya Umar Farouq, the newly appointed minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management. The minister led a technical working group to Maroua, capital of the far north region of Cameroon to kick-start the return process.

She was received by the governor of the region, Alh Midjiyawa Bakary, on arrival. As a result of the visit, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has airlifted back to the country no fewer than 135 Nigerians. The returnees were airlifted on Thursday, August 22 by a NAF C-130H aircraft from the Maroua Salak International Airport to Yola International Airport, in furtherance of the NAF’s constitutional role of providing military aid to civil authority.
