Media reports indicate that the wife of the president, Aisha Buhari, is seriously ill and has been flown to Germany to receive treatment.
There have been growing concerns in the past few days as to the whereabouts of the president’s wife, who once indirectly accused her husband of being a hostage of a cabal controlling the presidency. She has not been seen with her husband as he campaigns across Nigerian cities for his second term, neither has she been seen in public.
Online newspaper, TheCable says Aisha has not been seen campaigning “because she is ill”.
A presidency source explained to the newspaper that Aisha has not been seen campaigning “because she is ill”.
“For about two weeks now, you will observe that the president’s wife has not been campaigning. She is ill and she has travelled abroad for treatment,” he said.
However, she will be back on Monday, according to the report.
Aisha had set up a 700-member team for Buhari’s reelection bid.
During the inauguration of the team she had said, “It will operate as a sister body with necessary legwork and outreach and will mobilise women and youths across the country.”
Meanwhile, Suleiman Haruna, Aisha’s media aid, said that he did not have any comments regarding the President Wife’s health.
“Mrs. Buhari delegates tasks when necessary and her absence from public events does not mean she is ill or indisposed. Her team, led by the wife of the Vice President has been representing her at campaign events and rooting for support for the president and the party. So I don’t know why people are saying she is not well because of that,” Suleiman said.
