The former governor of Jigawa state, Mallam Sule Lamido has told President Muhammadu Buhari to follow the good example of former president Goodluck Jonathan in 2019 if he suffers defeat in the general election.
Lamido, who spoke at the 15th Daily Trust Dialogue in Abuja, on Thursday, January 18, told President Buhari to be honourable to accept defeat in the 2019 presidential election just like former President Goodluck Jonathan did in 2015 as a way of proving his integrity as a leader.
There have been calls for President Buhari not to run for office in 2019, but major heavy weight in his political party, the All Progressive Congress have persuaded the 75 year old to continue the “good work”which he started in 2015.
Under Buhari’s leadership, Nigeria suffered its worst recession in almost three decades. The country has suffered high unemployment and inflation rates which has led to questions about Buhari’s competence to rule the country which now has a population in excess of 180 million people, with an almost 45 percent youth population.
Lamido himself has expressed interest in Nigeria’s presidency and has scored Buhari low on all major indices.
