SWITZERLAND, DECEMBER 08 – Nigerians have taken to the social media to react after governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State reconciled Channels TV reporter, Pius Angbo, with his wife, Ifeanyinwa, who had accused him of incessant domestic violence in their six years of marriage.
A video released over the weekend shows Ifeanyinwa Angbo crying to the public for help over alleged repeated assault by her husband, Pius Angbo.
The woman, a medical doctor, in the two minutes and 13 seconds video seen by Today’s Echo, said she has been married to Mr Angbo for six years but has never enjoyed her home.
She claimed that Mr Angbo often assaulted her over ‘petty’ arguments at home.
She said the latest assault was a result of her advice to her husband to cease spending lavishly on ladies and cater for his four children.
Channels TV released a statement condemning domestic violence and promising to investigate the incidence.
However, governor Ortom of Benue state decided to step in. The governor met with the couple to settle their family issues at the state government secretariat on Monday and a video of the resolution emerged on social media.
Nigerians have shown their displeasure at the role the governor played in the reconciliation, arguing that he is condoning domestic violence as his actions may now embolden other men to beat their wives knowin there are no grave repercussions.
A Twitter user with the profile name, Jay jay David, wrote: “The face of the man says it all, he can’t wait to return back home and teach her a lesson for exposing him to the world as a woman beater. The more his colleagues at Channels TV move away from him, the more he would pour out his anger on her at home. A DOCTOR WITH NO BRAIN!”
Another said, “that Channels TV young man should be investigated, arrested and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to other potential wife beaters Whoever beats up a woman that has just endured a C-section is capable of murder. My 10 cents.”
