American actor, comedian, and singer, Eddie Murphy is on the verge of signing a deal with Netflix for a series of specials – set to earn him around £70 million.
According to TMZ, sources close to Eddie say Netflix are keen to sign him up for an undisclosed amount of comedy specials, and the deal is said to be around $70 million (£56 million).
Although the figure seems sky-high to us mere mortals, the sum isn’t far off what other top comedians have secured for similar deals – Netflix bagged Dave Chappelle for three stand-up specials for $60 million (£48 million) and Chris Rock got $40 million (£32 million) for doing two shows.
Eddie has also confirmed earlier this year that the sequel to his 1988 hit film Coming To America will be released next year – so he’s not going to be short on cash this year, by the looks of his projects.
TMZ haven’t been able to get the exact amount the deal is set to be signed for, but the huge demand for Eddie to finally come back to stand up is sure to be a big bargaining chip for him.
