Antonio Conte admits frustration over conceding a “stupid goal” led to him kicking a water bucket in anger during Chelsea’s 3-1 loss to Tottenham on Sunday.
Chelsea opened the scoring against their top-four rivals through Alvaro Morata in the 30th minute before Christian Eriksen equalised on the stroke of half-time with a long-range, dipping effort.
Tottenham were much improved after the break and scored twice through Dele Alli; the first from a superb Eric Dier pass before a close-range effort after Chelsea had failed to clear their lines multiple times.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Conte said of the incident: “It happened after the third goal, yes. There was a great frustration to concede a stupid goal in this way. Instead of putting the ball in the stand.
“I did this with the bottle of water. Maybe I wanted to play in that moment and shoot the ball in the stand!
“But, I repeat, there are a lot of players with not great experience and they have to gain that experience also with mistakes. We must have patience.”
