Defending World Cup Champions, Germany humiliatingly crashed out of the World Cup with a 2-0 loss to South Korea in Kazan today, Wednesday. The country failed to even advance to the knockout round.
Germany took 26 shots without troubling South Korean goalkeeper. Jo Hyeon-Woo. The South Koreans sealed their fate with a second goal in the 94th minute which was initially ruled offside — then onside after VAR decision.
Germany had progressed past the group stage of the World Cup sixteen times in a row, but booked themselves a premature exit this year. This is only the second time that Germany have been eliminated from the First Round at the World Cup, the last time was in 1938.
In the other Group F match, Sweden defeated Mexico 3-0 to advance on top of the group, while Mexico also advanced thanks to the South Korean victory.
