SWITZERLAND, MAY 27 – German-born Gernot Rohr will stay as the coach of the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, the president of the Nigerian Football Federation(NFF), Amaju Pinnick said on Wednesday.

There have been reports that Rohr’s position was in serious doubt with his contract up at the end of the month. Pinnick’s announcement that the German’s contractual discussions have been concluded may have put end to speculations that former Tottenham Hotspur Manager, Harry Redknap may emerge the new Super Eagles.

“I’m happy to announce that the NFF and Coach Gernot Rohr have concluded all contractual discussions and he will stay on as Coach of the Super Eagles. We have always had confidence in his abilities and we are confident that the national team can only go higher from here,” Pinnick tweeted on Wednesday evening.

“We can now qualify on qualifying for the World Cup and winning the Nations Cup. These are sacrosanct and Coach Rohr is aware of these conditions.” he added.

Today’s Echo had earlier reported that  Harry Redknapp may be the next coach of the Super Eagles if reported moves by Nigeria’s Ministry of Sports and Youths Development become successful.
