SWITZERLAND, JUNE 24 – Nigerian Dancehall sensation, Burna Boy has emerged the ‘Best International Act’ at the 2019 BET Awards

The event took place on Sunday night at Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.

Burna Boy was nominated alongside AKA (South Africa), Aya Nakamura (France), Dave (U.K.), Dosseh (France), Giggs (U.K.) and Mr Eazi (Nigeria)

A few hours ago, Burna boy made a statement on Twitter concerning the award:

“God is Great! Thank You To Everyone that’s supporting, I wouldn’t have this without you . This one is for Africa.”

Burna Boy is now the third Nigerian musician to win the Best International Act Award, after Wizzkid and Davido.

Burna’s mother, Bose Ogulu collected the award on his behalf and delivered a moving speech.

She said, “Thank you BET, Thank you Africa because that’s the constituency for which we got noticed in the first place.

“The message from Burna, I believe will be that every black person should please remember that you were Africans before you became anything else.”

The hall erupted into an ovation.

The BET Awards are organized by the BET network to celebrate African Americans and other American minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment over the past year. The awards are presented annually, and are broadcast live on BET. The annual presentation ceremony features performances by artists, and some of the awards of more popular interest are presented in a televised ceremony.
