SWITZERLAND, APRIL 27 – There was palpable tension in Ogba area of Lagos on Monday afternoon as a massive fire that began in a petrol station threatened to engulf an entire neighbourhood.
Witnesses told Today’s Echo that the fire broke out when a tanker offloading petrol spilled its content and exploded at NNPC Petrol station, College Road, Ogba.
Today’s Echo gathered that the fire spread from the petrol station to some nearby buildings before fire fighters and other rescue workers arroived at the scene.Fortunately, the fire was put under control before causing further damages.
The fire at Ogba further underlines the danger of sighting fuel and gas stations close to residential areas. In March, at least 17 people died and more than 50 houses were burnt when an explosion occurred in the Abule-Ado area of Festac town, Lagos State after a truck ran into gas cylinders.
