Residents Flee Katsina Communities as Scores Die in Bandit Attacks

SWITZERLAND, MAY 31 – Residents of some villages under Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State have been fleeing their homes in droves after a deadly attack by gunmen suspected to be bandits on Friday. 

The hoodlums attacked Garin Matseri and Unguwar Dankaya under Sheme District in the LGA, leaving scores of dead bodies and abducted girls in the process. 

Some residents were said to have engaged the gunmen with local arms during the attack. 

Today’s Echo gathers that despite repeated assurances of protection from the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army, the heinous attacks of bandits on defenceless communities in the North-West have continued unabated. With the COVID-19 pandemic intensifying across the north, states such as Katsina, President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state remain under siege from the notorious bandits who continue to kill and destroy with impunity.

Faskari LGA is one of the worst affected places in the state as the threat of bandits continues to make most parts of Katsina State unsafe.

 Buhari on May 17 ordered the commencement of a major military operation in Katsina State in order to rid it of bandits and kidnappers
