Police Arrest 47 Armed Fulani Herdsmen in Oyo State

SWITZERLAND, JANUARY 12 – 47 persons reported to be armed Fulani herdsmen have been arrested during a raid at Tapa/Igangan axis in Ibarapa North local government area of Oyo state.

Oladipo Ajibola, director-general of Operation Burst, confirmed the arrest of the herders, who have been accused of being on a reprisal mission.

The security operatives visited Ibarapa axis on Sunday following reports of unrest, subsequently apprehending the 47 suspects said to have been caught in the possession of arms.

According to Olugbenga Fadeyi, spokesman of the state police command, the suspects claimed that they were trailing some kidnappers who were about to collect ransom from relations of a kidnapped victim.

Fadeyi said the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, and investigations are in progress.
