SWITZERLAND, JANUARY 24 – The Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi has expressed optimism about the progress of work on the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge railway during an inspection tour of the Apapa section of the project on Friday.
The minister was joined on the tour by Zhao Dianlong, chairman of CCECC Group, the Chinese company handling the project. This is happening four days after he said that the April deadline for the completion of the project was no more feasible.
“Today, we are inspecting the Lagos-Ibadan rail line again, with emphasis on the Apapa Port axis. This time with the Chairman of CCECC Group, Zhao Dianlong & the MD, CCECC Nigeria, Jiang Yi Gao. I told them I am unhappy with the pace of work & it’s imperative they meet set targets.
” They’ve told us that the rail line up to Apapa would be completed by April, June for the minor stations and August for the major stations. We however hope that they’ll speed up the work and finish earlier, so we can move on to Ibadan-Kano rail line,” Amaechi tweeted on Friday.
Mr. Amaechi was named the Nigerian Minister of the Decade at the Thisday Awards 2020 on Tuesday.
