Two officials of the school feeding programme in Niger State have been allegedly sacked. The Guardian leanrt that the presidency ordered the sack followed the discovery of massive fraud in programme.

The source said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commenced investigation into how N1.2 billion disbursed to the state office for the feeding was spent.

According to the source, the Federal Government has asked the state government to immediately hand over the affairs of the scheme to the state Ministry of Women Affairs. This is coming barely two months after the programme took off in the state. The EFCC operatives were in Minna at the weekend to comb the offices of the organisation, but no arrest has been made, the source said.

Similarly, pupils who are the direct beneficiaries of the programme were said to have complained that they were treated like beggars in the sharing of food. When the state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Amina Musa, was contacted, she confirmed that her ministry had been directed to take over the programme.

She, however, declined to say what was responsible saying: “I have been directed to take over and I have taken over. I have already gone to the presidency for briefing.“I was not part of the last committee, but I have ruled the line and we are already forging ahead.”
