Gulf icon, Tiger Woods has explained why he chewed gum at the Masters last weekend

Tiger Woods’ Masters title at Augusta National on Sunday was his 15th Major overall and his first since the 2008 US Open.

Reaction to the comeback win after a debilitating back injury broke the internet and will be talked about for years, no decades, to come.

As will his gum-chomping that drew attention throughout the tournament.

According to the Golf Digest website while it’s certainly not the first time Woods has chewed gum in a tournament, it’s definitely the first time he’s worked his jaw from first shot to last.

So why did Tiger do it?

“Well, I’m chomping on this gum because I usually get hungry, I keep eating so much,” Woods explained.

“And it curbs my appetite a little bit, which is nice.”

We can only assume Phil Mickelson had the same reasoning for doing likewise, although, as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

For the record, Woods wasn’t chewing gum at his press conference post-tournament nor in Butler Cabin where he was handed the green jacket by last year’s winner Patrick Reed.
