The Chairman, Board of Trustees, Pistis Foundation, Godman Akinlabi has expressed that the Ubomi Mega Medical and Surgical Outreach which kicks off on Monday 18th March, 2019, is targeted at alleviating the sufferings of less privileged people in Lagos and its environs, who are struggling with various health challenges.

Speaking on the outreach at a press conference on Thursday, March 14th, 2019, Akinlabi said, “This is the first time we are having an outreach at this scale. We believe that with the kind of things happening around and the gaps in the nation’s healthcare system, non-governmental organizations should step up to provide access to medical care at little or no cost at all, especially for less privileged people who will not be able afford it.”

Pistis Foundation is collaborating with Pro-Health International, a non-profit voluntary health care organization with a focus on uplifting the health status of the less privileged, neglected rural populace in Africa. Pro-Health has been involved in over 170 of such outreaches across Africa.

According to Helen Mbonu, the Medical Representative of Pro-Health International, about 4,000 people will be attended to during the one-week long outreach. “Pro-Health is one of the largest volunteer-based free healthcare providers in West Africa. We have been to many countries in Africa as well as many states in Nigeria.”

For the outreach, ProHealth will be bringing on board about 200 healthcare professionals and volunteers including doctors, nurses, surgeons, pharmacists and biomedical engineers. At least 130 operations ranging from eye and dental surgeries, peadiatric surgeries, C-sections, orthopeadic sessions, fibroid removal, hysterectomy and more, are also to be performed free of charge, with provision for post-event medical care at partner hospitals.

Akinlabi mentioned that “Pistis Foundation is also in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Health. They have done some work with us, screening the licenses of all the medical practitioners that will participate in the Ubomi project and providing the Lagos State ambulance services at the centre that we will be using for the project”.

The outreach will take place at Pistis Annex, 3 Remi Olowude Street, by Marwa Bus Stop, Lekki.

Pistis Foundation is a non-profit social intervention arm of The Elevation Church.
