PDP Chairmanship: Coast clears for Secondus as South-West heavyweights step down

As the PDP holds its National convention continues, it is becoming evident that Uche Secondus is being favoured to emerge as the chairman of the party.

It was earlier thought that the next chairman will emerge from the South-West as some party big wigs asserted that the position has been zoned to the region. Heavyweights like Jimi Agbaji, Gbenga Daniel, Bode George, Rasheed Ladoja, and Pro Tunde Adeniran jostled for the job while Uch Secondus, Raymond Dokpesi and other contenders from other regions seemed to just be add ons.

However, the tide seems to have changed as the PDP National convention is going on at Eagle square. It is alleged that some rich and influential forces within the party are buying their way into favouring their preferred candidate.

Nyesom Wike, governor of oil rich Rivers State has been accused of rendering the zoning agreement worthless by bribing delegates to support his preffered candidate. So far Daniel, George, and Agbaje have resigned in bitterness.

Bode George said Wike has insulted the Yoruba race: “Governor Wike must tender an unreserved apology to the Yoruba people for his unguarded utterances against the Yoruba race. I listened to my younger brother and I see it as an insult. I consider it as an insult.”

However, there are indications that Wike’s moves are meant to clear the coast for Uche Secondus to emerge as the chairman of the party. This is allegedly part of a deal made with Atiku Abubakar to handover the party ticket to him
