SWITZERLAND, MAY 24 – Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has signed into law an amended Penal Code Law prescribing death sentence for cattle rustling and kidnapping.
Similarly, in the State, rapist now gets life sentence in addition to fine and compensation to the victim.
Katsina has experienced a worsening security situation in recent times as banditry, cattle rustling and kidnapping escalate in the state, where president Mohammadu Buhari hails from.
A few days ago, bandits reportedly killed 26 people in a village in the state, prompting President Buhari to summon Governor Aminu Masari and task the security chiefs on bringing peace to Katsina urgently.
Two months ago, the Nigerian Police launched a major offensive against bandits in North-Western Nigeria, the region in which Katsina is located.
