Leaving behind five children, a pregnant wife, and a damaged home- mutilated by his killers, there is no doubt that late Angus Okoye’s spirit cannot be resting in peace, at least for now, until his killers are brought to book.
Information from a reliable source points to the fact that Mr Angus, ‘m’ 48 may not have been killed as a result of a communal clash, as earlier reported by a news platform.
The news platform, not Today’s Echo, reported that Mr Angus Okoye was murdered due to a communal clash in Isu-Aniocha, a village in Awka North local government Area of Anambra state.
However, a reliable source from Isu-Aniocha reveals that Mr Okoye’s murder was as a result of a direct face-off between his suspected killer, Mr Anthony Onyeagolu, who was former President- General of Isu-Aniocha, and the Isu-Aniocha youth, where Mr Okoye was Vice-President, and very vocal voice in the youth society.
According to the source: “trouble started when the president-general began to intervene in the activities of the youths, detecting who should be elected or not elected and deciding on the sharing formula for the youth development fee, which was coming from the sale of landed properties in the area, running into millions of naira”.
The sorce further explained that when Mr Anthony Onyeagolu was challenged by the youths, he allegedly vowed to ‘kill’ Angus for being on the opposition.
Mrs Sylvia Okoye, wife of the deceased also alleged that during the peak of the crises, she was compelled to find out from Onyeagolu why he wanted her husband dead and was allegedly told by the P-G that her husband is associating with opposition youths in the LGA, instead of supporting him.
Not long after the threat, Mr Okoye’s house was attecked by armed men. Though, he was not at home when they came, but his wife recounted how they unleashed terror on all of them, beating up the young man who stays with them, and threatened to still get hold of Mr Okoye.
This led Mr Okoye to send his wife and kids to stay with his elder brother, elder George Okoye in Lagos until there is calm.
Some days later, the same young man whom they beat up was caught and macheted on the head, but luckily was rushed to the hospital after the notorious men left, thinking he was dead.
How Okoye was Murdered
At about 1.30am, 16th December 2018, Mr Angus Okoye was kidnapped at his home at Ifite Isu village, Isu Aniocha, Awka North local government area.
While pictures of his lifeless remains on towel points to the fact that he may have just finished having his bath before the ‘angels’ of death visited, little did he know that, that would be his last bath before his killers sent him to an early grave.
An online news portal, not Today’s Echo, later reported that the corpse of Okoye was found at about 9am, after a distress call was made to the police at Dunukofia Division that a middle age man was found lying unconscious at the boundary between Isu Aniocha and Nawgu village.
