Argentina and Manchester city Striker Sergio “Kun” Aguero season has been cut short, after he underwent keyhole surgery on his knee.
The strikers last appearance came during last week’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Liverpool when he was introduced as a 66th-minute substitute.
Aguero has scored 30 times in all competitions for newly crowned Premier League champions City despite recently spending a month on the sidelines with a knee problem.
City manager Pep Guardiola said last week he remained hopeful the 29-year-old would be available for the “last games” of the season when questioned about Aguero’s injury.
But with just five league matches remaining and the title already wrapped up, City can afford to be cautious with Aguero ahead of this summer’s World Cup.
He tweeted on Tuesday Afternoon “Recovering from an arthroscopy on my knee. Fully motivated to get back soon to the field.”
Returning to full fitness in time for this summer’s World Cup will now be Aguero’s main concern, with the showpiece event in Russia now just two months away.
Argentina’s first match of the tournament is against Iceland on June 16.
